Why must I provide an MS Word document?
I use Vellum to create books. MS Word is the only document format the software supports for import.
What if there are spelling and grammar errors in my document?
For the best experience, you should ensure that your MS Word document is error free. Usually, that means hiring an editor and a proofreader. The service I provide is formatting. Any spelling and grammar errors are carried forward in the final deliverables.
I use Scrivener to create my books. Can you help me?
Absolutely. Scrivener provides a robust compiler for creating MS Word documents. Make sure to select “Vellum Export.”
What choice of styles do you offer?
You can choose from several styles. To preview them, check out this short video.
What else can you customize?
Each style allows you to further customize elements such as chapter headings, ornamental breaks, and headers and footers. You can also change the default font. Here’s another video showing some of the elements.
Can I specify a different font at the page level?
Unfortunately, no. But you can transform text using features such as Bold, Italics, and Small Caps. If you want your title page to use a different font, I can create a title page image in Photoshop. Feel free to request a quote.
Can I include my publisher logo and author photo?
Yes and yes. Make sure to send only high-def images. Do not include pictures saved from your MS Word document. Word compresses those, and the quality is typically not good enough for publication.
What if I don’t have a book cover yet?
For paperbacks, that isn’t a problem since I am creating the book’s interior only. But publishing ebooks on platforms such as Amazon, Apple Books, and Kobo, requires that you include a cover inside the book file. Your best bet is to wait until you have all the assets.
Can you create box sets?
Absolutely. Note that the maximum number of books is 3, with a total word count of 180K words. Request a quote for anything exceeding that.
Why don’t you work with nonfiction authors?
Though I love nonfiction, creating those books often requires special handling for elements such as tables, charts, graphs, and bibliographies. If your title is more straightforward, feel free to request a quote, and I’ll take a look at it to determine whether I can help.
